'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith renews clash with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he remembers the thrilling closing stages of his team's epic comeback win against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. That match wrapped up with Galbraith briefly donning a fan's glasses after the on-field celebration.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith struck the post with a powerful shot from outside the box, and the defender quickly hammered in the deflection before charging toward the East Stand to revel in the moment, with fans swarming the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The result capped an incredible comeback given the Welsh side had found themselves down 2-0 midway through the final 45 minutes. During the euphoria, there was some unintended consequences. Galbraith explained, "There was a fan sort of calling out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're individuals, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The result earned a fourth-round game at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith came close against at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with his former club in February. He had a prime vantage point when his former team took the lead in spectacular fashion, with Jamie Donley's long-range effort from about long distance going in via the woodwork and the opposition keeper. It seems unfair that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've given it to him for attempting the shot from that range," says Galbraith, who played in the middle before switching to right flank after Orient changed tactics. That meant getting to grips with City's winger, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the winger was among the opposition who praised the way the underdogs approached the match.

Guardiola's System

"Fitness-wise they are exceptional but even the simple things and routine actions, they can just do it over and over again," Galbraith says. "It appears that they always find their target and they are adept at dictate and take the sting out of a game. You can believe you're doing well and then abruptly they will just deliver a through ball between defenders without you even spotting it. You have to be focused every second of the game. It requires a tough attitude and attention just to keep pace."

Swansea Move

The Welsh side were keen on Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to bring him in in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He established himself as a popular figure across two seasons at his former club and has quickly done the same in Wales. At his previous team he joined forces once more with his former manager, who earlier gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in professional games on loan at his loan club from Old Trafford. Then came a temporary move at League Two Salford, before he permanently left Manchester United.

Growth Journey

"I was probably a slightly green going into professional soccer. I think a lot of players would say development squad matches is entirely separate. Sometimes it seems the ball is moved without real physicality. You see few tackles or duels. Once you start playing professional matches you have to learn quickly."

International Recognition

He has demonstrated that development for club and country, performing well for Northern Ireland, who are fighting to qualify for the World Cup next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has started the past five games, including two matches games against the German national team. The ex-coach, Galbraith's former international manager, gave him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he handles the football and his knack for a decisive through ball.

Starting Out

This marks an incredible journey for the player from the local area in his hometown, just outside the capital, who was raised observing his dad, his father, also a engine room operator, play for his father's team.

Red Devils Debut

Galbraith's sole appearance for Manchester United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a European competition trip to Astana, where they competed on an artificial pitch and the venue ceiling was shut owing to conditions of bitter cold. "It was a long trip and it was chilly," he says, grinning. "The days leading up, myself and quite a few of the young lads worked out jointly, so that aided our adjustment. Just to travel with the first team and earn some playing time at the end was incredible."

Moving On

What was the challenge was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he transferred from aged 16? "It was relatively straightforward, because I reached the point where I realized I couldn't establish myself at the senior squad. I'm very appreciative for the years at the club but it reached a stage where I believed I needed to go my own route, drop down the leagues and play professional soccer. Now I'm gradually progressing again."

Life in Swansea

It is the early part of the afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has an appointment at late afternoon: a road rules assessment, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Until recently to his new neighborhood, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's nicknamed fun bus, a minibus driven by club employees, the transport team, which ferries players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"My companions include the Portuguese player, another squad member, Malick Yalcouyé – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's pleasant to interact with the lads but I'm planning to be the following person out of the minibus and behind the wheel. His teammate enjoys practical jokes; he's constantly causing mischief."

Supporter Connections

During his time at his former club, Galbraith would blend in with supporters on the Tube after beginning his trip at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
